<image:caption>2020 (ongoing). Digital Photography, Oil on Natural Canvas, Painting measures, 20" x 20" "In Exchange for an Image" is an ongoing project begun in 2018 that examines social exchange as an alternative to economic exchange. The artist brings her painting materials into the home of a friend and paints them while they prepare a meal, which the two then share. The cooking process imposes spacial and temporal constraints, through which the artist must navigate. This project looks at the role of a work of art as a mediation between artist and viewer. In this constructed scenario, the physical act of painting defines the relationship, rather than the image itself. An interaction, instead of a figure, becomes the subject of the work. This project moves forward as the paintings are documented, a year later, within the homes of their subject/recipients, by the subject/recipients, calling into question which member of the interaction can be labeled 'artist.'</image:caption>
